ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2019

The Annual Conference 2019 of the European Academy of Religion took place in Bologna from Monday 4th to Thursday 7th March.

During the Conference, more than three hundred working sessions have been active, including panels, book presentations, roundtables, and workshops. Maureen Junker-Kenny (Trinity College Dublin), Sophie Nordmann (École Pratique des Hautes Études), Craig Calhoun (Arizona State University), and Tim Winter (University of Cambridge) were invited to give keynote lectures around the topic: “Empowering the Individual, Nurturing the Community”.

The agenda of the Conference was enriched by two film screenings, an exhibition, and a public roundtable organized at the Oratory of San Giovanni Battista dei Fiorentini (Sala di rappresentanza Banca di Bologna) by the 'Institute for International Policy Studies (ISPI). #EuARe2019 also hosted: the launch of the Network for Dialogue of the International Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz (KAICIID); a three-days conference organized by the Confronti Study Center on the topics of religion and belief, in their relationship with gender, politics, culture and media; the Conference Day of the Académie Internationale des Sciences Religieuses (AISR), L’avenir de l’œcuménisme.

The traditional Gala Dinner, on Tuesday 5, was the occasion to award the winners of first edition of the Giuseppe Alberigo Award, a sum of € 30,000, which rewards scholars engaged in a field of religious science, whether historical, exegetical, theological or other, without any form of limitation concerning the type of study.
